STILL INVOLVED 50 YEARS LATER — My Alma Mater, Kent State University, where Black History Month originated in 1970.

On Saturday February 15, 2020, I had the opportunity to travel to my Alma Mater Kent State University as a guest for their 50th Anniversary Celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth — Where Black History Month Originated in 1970 by Pioneers Carl Gregory (Saidi Dhati), Dwayne White (Ibrahim Al-Khafiz), Dr. Edward W. Crosby and Dr. Milton E. Wilson.

The 50th Celebration included:
David Coleman, Master Drummer, Pan-African Studies — African Drum Call
Dr. Amoaba Gooden, Chair, Department of Pan-African Studies — Welcome
Yayra Tamkole, Student Singer, Kent State University — “Lift Every Voice and Sing”

Dr. Todd Diacon, President, Kent State University — Reflections
Patrick Ferguson, President, Black United Students (BUS) — Black United Students at 50

Bobby Selvaggio, Director, KSU Jazz Orchestra — I Have A Dream

Dean E. Timothy Moore, Professor Emeritus, Pan-African Studies & Dr. Silas Ashley, President, KSU Black Alumni Chapter — 50 Years of Celebrating Black History Month at Kent State University


Dr. Tameka Ellington, Professor, The Fashion School — Tapestry (Carl Gregory, Dwayne White, Dr. Edward Crosby, Dr. Milton Wilson)

And a host of Beautiful People of Color, who are working collectively to continue the legacy of Black History Month, by contributing their own efforts toward the successes and advancement of our people.
